My Only Shelter is the 1st studio album by Darkhaus. It was released on 22 November 2013.
Production
In April 2011, when Gary Meskil had some spare time in his schedule, he contacted Rupert Keplinger to get together for a week of writing and see what would happen. From this session, the duo wrote 5 tracks. These were Break Down the Walls, Breaking the Silence, Son of a Gun, Angelina, and Hurts Like Hell.
The album was recorded in multiple studios all over the world:
- Vocals were recorded in Gary Meskil's home in Sarasota, Florida.
- All instruments were recorded in Rupert's studio in Hamburg, Germany.
- Drums were recorded in Paul Keller's old studio in Bielefeld, Germany.
- Mixing and mastering occurred in different studios in Hamburg, Germany.
The album had been 80% written over the course of 3-4 sessions.
Rupert and Gary recorded 3 demos for the band before any of the other members had joined. The remaining tracks would be recorded with Marshall Stephens and Paul Keller joining over time. Gary Meskil recorded vocals for every track, keeping in mind that there would be a replacement singer eventually.
As of March 2012, 12 tracks had been completed for the album. Once Kenny Hanlon had joined the project, he brought in 2 songs of his own. Life Worth Living and Apostle.
A few days before Kenny's audition for the band, the final non-Kenny written songs for the album had been completed. These songs were Ghost and Grace Divine.
