Ebbe und Flut is the 1st studio EP by Universum25. It was released on 14 September 2023.
Information
The EP is a collection of tracks from Universum25 that are covers of the members main/past projects. These being Fiddler's Green, Eisbrecher, Dritte Wahl, Noah, and Slime.
The tracklist order for Spotify is incorrect as it is simply the release order of the tracks, which is the same formatting that the singles chose to do. However, with the release of the EP, the tracklist was rearranged on all streaming services except Spotify, which also has the incorrect release date, 13 September 2023.
With the release of Irgendwann, the band did not publicly announce the EP, only that more tracks were coming. However, the Apple Music link for Irgendwann directed fans to an EP labelled Ebbe und Flut with the other 4 tracks hidden. With a cross reference of Ebbe und Flut with member's other project tracks, it was believed that the title track was from Slime, which would later be confirmed by its release.
Promotion
The first mention of more songs being released by Universum25 was mentioned in an interview with Gunnar and Pat, when Pat suggested that there would be some "new, special songs" on the upcoming tour.
On 30 March 2023, part 2 of a Q&A with Universum25 was posted to the official official Universum25 Instagram . In it, Pat says that new songs are being made ahead of the tour.
On 20 April 2023, an image of Rupert and Gunnar in Principal studios was posted to the official Universum25 Instagram . As this was after the release of the Universum25 self-titled album, it is most likely that this was around the beginning of production for the cover tracks, rather than rehearsals for the upcoming tour.
The first direct hint of a project being in the works came from a post by the official Universum25 Instagram on 16 May 2023, stating that Alex had recorded drums the previous day.
On 27 June 2023, the official Universum25 Instagram hinted again at studio work, with a photo of Pat and Gunnar in the middle of tour preparations.
On 5 July 2023, Rupert joined a Twitch stream hosted by Michael Krogmann. A post on the official Universum25 Instagram hinted that on the stream, news about the new releases would be mentioned. The stream is, as of now, unreleased and deleted. But some notes that EisWiki made of the broadcast were:
- All upcoming tracks were to be covers of all of the member's projects.
- An Eisbrecher cover was confirmed for Rupert's contribution.
- A Fiddler's Green cover would be released first out of the planned 5 tracks.
- In Extremo would not be receiving a cover, rather Micha's first band Noah would be.
On 10 July 2023, another studio photo was posted to the official Universum25 Instagram mentioning new music.
On 12 July 2023, the first single, Irgendwann, was announced publicly on the official Universum25 Instagram .
