Die Hölle muss warten is the 5th studio album by Eisbrecher. It was released on 3 February 2012.
Album chronology
Production
It is unknown exactly when album production began. With January 2011 being the first known public mention of the next album, it is possible that work had started that year. However, on 24 January 2012 in an interview with the CAMSTAS YouTube channel , it is said that over 1 and a half years of work had been done on the album. This would align with the end of the first leg of the Eiszeit Tour.
All songs on the Miststück edition, except Zeit, were created after the release of the base album. It is not known if work for the next album had begun when the 4 new songs were decided for a special edition, or if they were intended purely for a bonus edition of the album.
In an interview with Stuttgart Schwarz , Pix explained that the tour and release date delay was a matter of going through a major label, and that a minor delay can result in months of delay from the label side. In this same interview, Pix stated that Die Hölle muss warten was one of the first tracks created for the album.
During production of the album, lead vocalist of Lord of the Lost, Chris Harms, was in one of the writing groups. However, none of the tracks that he worked on would make it onto the final album. Lord of the Lost would go on to support Eisbrecher on the first leg of the Höllentour.

In an interview with Eisbrecher France , Alex stated that 3-4 singles would be planned for Die Hölle muss warten. Only 2 would be released publicly, Verrückt and Die Hölle muss warten; and 2 would be released as promo only, Prototyp and Miststück 2012 / Metall.
Miststück edition
On 5 July 2012, in a post on the official Eisbrecher Facebook , a recording at the 2012 Amphi festival was announced as well as the band being in the studio for a new thing to be released in 2012. The post made mention of a music video for a song that was not on Die Hölle muss warten.
On 2 August 2012, the official Eisbrecher Facebook teased some studio work, with a very obvious hint at the word "Stück". This, combined with the previously mentioned post, gave a very good indication of a new version of the Megaherz original Miststück.
On 7 August 2012, the band uploaded a photo of Severin Schweiger taking a photo on a set to the official Eisbrecher Facebook . In the comments, the band stated that the photo was taken the day before uploading. This photo shoot was most likely for the female photo used on the Lenticular cover of the Miststück edition, due to its similarity to the original artwork with the black couches and white background.
On 10 August 2012, another studio update was posted to the official Eisbrecher Facebook .
On 20 August 2012, a post to the official Eisbrecher Facebook stated that the band had just finished a 20 hour film shoot, with a promise of something for the eyes and ears to come. Later promotion of the Miststück music video suggested that the shoot was 20 hours.
On 20 August 2012, the band gave an update on the official Eisbrecher Facebook . They stated that the Amphi festival recordings gave 5 songs plus a bonus. The post also made mention of a tour documentary, music video, and 4 new songs.
On 2 September 2012, there was an official announcement of the Miststück edition on the Eisbrecher website . The announcement included some questions from fans and showcased the new track titles and special features of the Miststück edition.
On 14 September 2012, in a Facebook post on the official Eisbrecher Facebook , the band made it known that the song Miststück, as well as the song Metall, could be heard in clubs and discos around Germany. The songs were distributed with a promo only single.
On 21 September 2012, the 4 new songs were uploaded to Soundcloud early. With Zeit being uploaded with the release of the Die Hölle muss warten single, that made all 5 bonus tracks available.
Other songs
The track Zeit was created during the production of the album but was originally only released on a B-Side of the Die Hölle muss warten single. It wasn't until the release of the Miststück edition that the track would be available on an album.
It is unknown if work on the Miststück edition of the album was also being done during the creation of the Eisbrecher and Adrenalin remake tracks for the 10 Jahre Eisbrecher single, as the band did not say what they were working on when they decided to release another edition of Die Hölle muss warten.
Due to the uncertain starting times for the creation of the next Eisbrecher album Schock, it is not known if the band had entered the studio for Schock first, or if work began on a bonus edition immediately. If the bonus edition tracks were solely for the Miststück edition of Die Hölle muss warten, it is still not clear how long or shortly after the release that the band returned/started working on Schock.
The track Anfang could have possibly been created during the recording sessions for Die Hölle muss warten. Due to Alex and Noel's mentioning of the studios used in its creation in an interview with Metal Hammer , it could either be Schock or Die Hölle muss warten. Solely due to the song's placement on the compilation album Es bleibt kalt°!, on the 2003-2013 CD, it is highly likely to be from the sessions of Die Hölle muss warten.
In private e-mail communication with Noel Pix about the track Rot wie die Liebe, Noel off-handedly mentioned that he had composed the song 3 years before the release of Schock. With no certain time frame of the actual creation, it is possible that the track was originally intended for either Die Hölle muss warten, the Die Hölle muss warten Miststück edition, or he had misremembered the creation date of the track.
